Frank Preble came up with the idea and name for his tour business more than 20 years before it was actually created - although he didn't realize it at the time.

At the conclusion of a particularly exciting reg-atta during his yacht racing days, Frank joined several other members of the crew for a margarita at a local watering hole overlooking Marblehead. After regaling one another with past exploits, the conversation turned to the logistical challenges they all faced in getting from where they were to where they needed to be in time for the next regatta.

At that point, Frank had an epiphany: Why not create a service company to handle the logistical headaches so all the crew had to worry about was sailing? He suggested that it could be called something like "Landfall Logistics."

["Landfall" is an old sailing term denoting the first sighting of land after a voyage. Typically, the first crewman to spot the coastline would yell "landfall" and a grand celebration in honor of the completion of a successful adventure would ensue.]

"Yeah right, have another" was the general response, but Frank had latched on to something. Two careers and two children later, Frank made his vision a reality.

"Landfall Custom Tours" doesn't exactly cater to transient sailors, but the premise is still the same - to provide connected groups with a worry-free travel experience. And while his groups may not be calling out "landfall" at the end of their journey, there is still cause to celebrate the completion of a successful - and completely distinctive - adventure.
